How To PlayThe Dreidel Game
Each player places a few chocolate gelt coins or candies, raisins, or nuts into a kitty. Taking turns, each player spins the dreidel. The hebrew letter that comes up, determines what the spinner does. When only one coin is left, each player adds another coin into the kitty. When somebody has won all the objects, (ie. everyone else has none), they are the winner.
"Nun" means 'nisht'
or nothing.
You win nothing, you lose nothing.
"Gimel" means 'gantz'
or whole.
You take the whole kitty, leaving 1 coin, while everyone else puts
in 1 coin.
"Hay" means 'halb'
or half.
You win half of what's in the kitty plus one if there is an odd number.
"Shin"
means 'shtel' or put in.
You lose, and must put one coin into the kitty.
If you don't want to play with coins, the game may alternately be played for "points." On a piece of paper, keep track of how many points you get. Who ever reaches 100 points first wins.
